Hiya Lou, this is Donald Riggio. We're friends on facebook. I also have a group page called: Seven-Inch-Vinyl and a blog here on blogspot by the same name. I too am from the Bronx, Throggs Neck section and I've been a fan of the music for many years. I've also written a novel Seven-Inch-Vinyl that I'm trying to have published. It would be a pleasure to post here and I invite you to do the same by following my blog and both my Facebook pages. There are lots of fans like us. Tell all your friends about us and I'll do the same.
By the way, the term DooWop is usually credited to New York Disc Jockey Gus Gossert who started using the term around 1969. See you on the boards my friend.
This is Lou The Doo Wop Musicman! Born in the Bronx N.Y. in 1942. My family moved to Forest Hills Queens N.Y. in 1954. I was there right form the beginning of what was called R&B. I was fortunate to be able to go to just about every Rock 'n' Roll show in the New York area. I remember listing to Allen Freed, Jocko Henderson,Symphony Sid, The Bruce,Murray The 'K',Cousin Bruce. Allen Freed (www.allenfreed.com) coined the phrase Rock 'n' 'Roll. Don't know who was first to call it Doo Wop, but that's what I like to call it.It's my music, The music I love and know will never die! Like the song says Rock 'n' Roll is here to stay! Feel free to post and share some memories. Post up coming concerts, doo wop cruises, links, etc. It may be my blog but I want it to be for everyone who loves Doo Wop!! Enjoy the music!!
